On assignment in Japan, television personality turned sportscaster Britt Bowen is determined to land an interview with the most reclusive pitcher in baseball and prove she can succeed in a demanding profession. A relationship with a self-absorbed professional athlete is the last thing Britt needs.

Shunning all media attention, former All-Star pitcher Caleb Scott is focused on rebuilding his career in Japan, far from his past and the horrible tragedy that nearly ruined him. Then he meets Britt, who is everything he vowed to avoid.

But it doesn’t take long before Caleb is battling his attraction toward Britt. While she works to uncover his secrets, she can’t deny she’s drawn to his wounded soul. At a crossroads, Caleb must decide if he can break free from his past mistakes and give love another chance. And Britt must choose between advancing her career … or falling in love.

5 Awesome Walk-Up Songs for Writing a Must-Read Romance

Music is a powerful force that moves humanity in numerous ways.

In professional baseball, players often have a ‘walk-up’ song that is played in the stadium when they’re … wait for it … walking up to the batter’s box. Hence the name, walk-up song. I’ve checked out a few lists and players have chosen everything from Ellie Goulding to Rage Against the Machine. It’s a big part of baseball culture and also helps the batter mentally prepare to step up to the plate and get the job done.

Writers often create a playlist of songs to inspire a novel or set the mood for writing an emotional scene. I don’t listen to a lot of music while I write because it’s distracting. But I do love country music because the songs tell stories and evoke emotions that are common to the human experience. Redemption, second chances, forgiveness, small-town living, and finding lasting love are all themes I explore in my novels. Here’s a list of songs I frequently play when I need to mentally prepare for writing that next crucial scene.

    1. Ferris Wheel by Jason Jones inspired a fun, romantic scene in Covering Home. The video is adorable, by the way. You should watch it.
    2. Compass by Lady Antebellum is a song that played on the radio quite often in the season of life when I was writing Covering Home. It’s a great, upbeat song about following your heart and not giving up. Since Britt and Caleb wrestled with finding their way back to one another, I found it very appropriate.
    3. Springsteen by Eric Church is an amazing song, not only for the incredible lyrics, but the subject matter, as well. A reunion romance is one of my favorite tropes to both write and read. This song says it all. Who hasn’t wondered what it would be like to see your old flame again?
    4. Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen is a contagious, feel-good song about that initial spark, the spontaneous, intoxicating feeling of mutual attraction. It’s when the hero and heroine first meet on the page, sweeping us up in the possibility of a happily ever after.
  • Dirt by Florida Georgia Line is another song with an excellent video. Grab the tissues first. I love how it tells the story of a life well-lived, filled with joy and hope found in every day moments.
