She can’t afford to lose this…or him

There’s no way that struggling single mom Janie Young is going to lose Family Secrets. Not even to Dr. Burke Carter. The prize money and media exposure from the cooking-competition show will secure the future for her and her son, who has special needs. Sure, Burke is a talented chef with his own reasons to win, but he already has so much: wealth, a beautiful daughter, great looks…and definitely her attention. As their families become closer, Janie is beginning to care too much about him. But she can’t afford to get involved. Not when everything is riding on beating him.

~ Guest Post ~

I love to cook. When I’m in the kitchen, making something, I feel creative. And yet…it’s far more of a mindless pursuit than my day job – writing. And my night job – writing. Cooking relaxes me. And yet it stimulates me, too. It allows my mind to wander – to plot – and it’s also a comfort – fulfilling a physiological need. But here’s the shadow side secret – I love to cook because when I’m cooking, I’m in control. I choose what I’m going to eat. And I choose how it’s going to be prepared. If I want onions, I add them. If I don’t want pepper, there is none. If I want to put steak in macaroni and cheese, it goes in. (A particular favorite. I know. Shudder.)
What I had never done was watch a cooking show. And then…I did. I watched one. Then another. And then some more. And pretty soon, as is my way in life, I had stories appearing about cooking shows. A lot of them. I told my editor about them. She bought them. And ‘Family Secrets’ reality cooking show was born. Contestants compete with secret family recipes. And each story also revolves around a family secret kept by either the hero or heroine.
I’ve loved this idea since its inception. And with each book, I love it more. I can’t explain why. Somehow, the combination of the show and the secrets…unleashed something new from within me. In this first book, For Love or Money, you’ll meet the show’s host. You’ll see how the competition works. And you’ll also find out how a surgeon could come to blame himself for his wife’s death. And why he must, at all costs – including losing the love of his life – provide for his daughter.
And just to get your taste buds revved up, here’s a recipe from the show!
Party Casserole
1 lb. ground beef
2  8 oz. cans tomato sauce
1# egg noodles, cooked to package directions
1 package cream cheese
1 cup cottage cheese
3/4 cup sour cream
1 bunch green onion, finely chopped
1 T butter, melted
Brown ground beef.  Add tomato sauce.  Simmer for ten minutes.
While ground beef is simmering mix cream cheese, cottage cheese, sour cream, green onion and butter in large bowl until fully combined.
In three quart casserole dish lightly cover bottom with small amount of ground beef mixture.  Layer 1/2 of the noodles, 1/2 cheese mixture, 1/2 of ground beef and repeat.
Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
Great as a leftover, too!”
