Character Descriptions

I’m thrilled to be visiting your blog today to celebrate the release of Home to Stay, the second of my three 2017 releases and the fourth book in the San Diego K-9 Unit series!

Today, I would like to tell you a little about the main characters in Home to Stay.
Shannon Clemens

The heroine of Home to Stay is Shannon Clemens. Shannon is a rookie officer in the San Diego Police Department K-9 Unit. Shannon had wanted to be in law enforcement since she tragically lost her little brother when she was only fourteen. The K-9 Unit is one of the hardest to get into in the police department, and Shannon is thrilled that she finally made it. Her K-9 partner, Darwin, is also a rookie, and Shannon has been instrumental in his training. When the story begins, she and Darwin had only recently been assigned a specialization: search and rescue. With the only other search-and-rescue officer with the SDPD on his honeymoon at the time, Shannon’s first solo assignment comes sooner than expected. She and Darwin have to find a little boy lost in a state park, and that hits too close to home with what had happened to her brother. But Shannon is feisty and determined to make a difference, and bring the little boy, Dylan, back to his father unharmed.

As for Shannon’s appearance, I thought I would share with you the “Character Description” form authors fill in to help the talented art department people at Harlequin design our covers.

heroine

A celebrity lookalike for Shannon is Christina Applegate, when she wore her bright-blonde hair chin-length.

Sawyer Evans

The hero of Home to Stay is Sawyer Evans. Sawyer is a single father and a professor of law. He’d been one of the top prosecutors in the San Diego County District Attorney’s office, but left that job to teach. He changed jobs to give him more time with his son, Dylan, after his wife Jeannette abandoned them. Sawyer is more of a studious than a rugged and outdoorsy type. He thinks of himself as the nerdy academic, more comfortable with his head in a law book than plodding up a mountain trail for a hike. His entire world is his son, and he would do anything for him and to keep him safe from harm. Sawyer’s worst nightmare comes true when Dylan disappears from his family’s campsite in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park.

Here is the completed Character Description form for Sawyer.

A celebrity lookalike for Sawyer is Michael Weatherly.

Dylan Evans

Dylan is Sawyer’s four-year old son. Dylan is smart and remarkably resilient, having lost his mother at an early age. His favorite toy is a stuffed kangaroo he named Joey. Here is the Character Description form for Dylan.

Darwin

Darwin is Shannon’s K-9 partner. Darwin is a beautiful, young German shepherd. He showed great potential in a number of areas when his training began with the San Diego Police Department, but he had a particular aptitude for search and rescue. Resultantly that became his specialization.

Here is Darwin’s Character Description form.

darwin

The inspiration for Darwin is a York Regional Police K-9 named Cyrus.

Rufus

cyrus

Rufus is a rescue dog Sawyer adopts for Dylan. Rufus is a Bernese mountain dog/Australian shepherd mix and quite large. Here is Rufus’s Character Description form.
